Episode one of the shows the tools and techniques necessary to
complete a Pastac painting. Work along with Brendan as he uses chalk
pastels, painter’s tints, and shellac to create fresco-like works
of art that can be done by anyone.

Brendan Loughlin, self taught artist and developer
of a revolutionary painting medium he has named “PASTAC”,
paints and teaches art classes in Guilford, CT.
Experimenting with chalk pastels during
a trip to Canada, Loughlin began using a commercially produced and widely
used shellac called BIN which doesn’t dull colors as other fixatives
do.
Pastac is a method combining chalk pastels,
commerical painter's tints, and BIN shellac to create fresco-like works
of art. Pastac paintings are a joy to master, easily applied to almost
any surface, a cinch to repair or correct, and highly addictive.
Brendan Loughlin will show you how to complete
a painting in one session, and give you the know-how to take the Pastac
revolution home with you.

Marjorie Tietjen, Killingworth, CT:
Approximately 3 years ago I was invited to attend art class with
my relatives. I was only going to observe....because I thought I had
no talent and could barely draw a stick figure. It was NOT what I imagined
an art class to be...seriousness, strict rules, nervous tension, etc.
I thought I was going to Brendan's class just to observe his new technique
and watch my relatives paint. Well, little did I know they had brought
extra materials for me to practice on. In fact they insisted
that I try painting. Well...my first attempt wasn't so hot....but I
was hooked anyway. I have been painting ever since.
PASTAC is the perfect technique to use if you are a beginner
or a seasoned artist. The colors produced are so vivid and durable. Generally, the style is BIG, colorful,
happy, free and loose! Brendan always tells us, we can never make a mistake.
He constantly encourages his students......and even his constructive criticisms
sound like compliments.
PASTAC is "mistake free" because the artist can always cover over any
errors without making the painting muddy. I remember one day I had almost finished
a large painting of flowers. I was kind of proud of it. As I was trying to squeeze
out more tint from the tube....the rear end of the tube blew out and paint spattered
ALL over my painting. I was horrified. Brendan came to the rescue with denatured
alcohol and cleaned up the whole painting. I thought it was a miracle. Another
time, Julia, my painting partner, spilled denatured alcohol all across her painting.
We had all just finished admiring the beautiful job she had done. Poor Julia
was in shock. Brendan scooped up her painting, drained off the excess, and saved
the day. None of the colors bled or streaked.
To sum things up....Brendan's technique is practical, inexpensive
and easy to learn. His paintings and his personality are glowing, bright,
soft and joyful. He's the best teacher I've ever had. What more can you ask for?

"To the creatives and playmates who teach
me as much about life as they do about their craft...To Brendan
Loughlin, my art teacher, for reigniting my childhood passion for
painting flowers and skies like Van Gogh in sessions that interlaced
laughter and life lessons while learning his Pastac method."

Joanne Mangi, North Haven, CT:
" I have been painting with Brendan since October and all I want
to do is paint now. It is just the most amazing process. Easy, you
never make a mistake—when [Brendan] says you can't make a mistake,
he means it, and it's true. We make happy paintings."
